About Myrmyr
Myrmyr is Agnes Szelag & Marielle Jakobsons originally from Oakland, California. With a foundation of violin and cello, the duo creates an intimate post-classical atmosphere inspired by folk elements of their common Eastern European ancestry. Since 2004, they have performed across the US and in Poland, collaborated with dozens of musicians and filmmakers, and premiered several works for large ensembles such as sfSound & the Oakland Active Orchestra. In 2009 they released their debut album The Amber Sea on Digitalis Recordings, hailed as “one of the most unique and absorbing albums we’ve heard this year” by Boomkat. In 2011 they released the LP “Fire Star” on Under the Spire Recordings, described as “an alternately enchanting and disturbing suite of classical-damaged drone pieces” by Brainwashed. The duo first began performing together with strings and electronics at Mills College where they both received their MFA’s in Electronic Music.
